Helping Hands Garden Year End Review

All, we will have the end of year review meeting for the the Helping Hands Garden this Thursday from 2 pm to 3 pm in the Auditorium at the Extension Office.

This is a reschedule of the meeting that was originally to be held last week.  Looking for feedback from everyone on what went well this year, and what didn’t go as well as we would like (opportunities for improvement)

If you can’t make the meeting, but have some feedback, please send the feedback along in an email.

I’ve been told there is currently no heat in the auditorium, and forecast is for the 40’s on Thursday, so come dressed appropriately.

Sorry for the short notice.  Hoping for a decent turnout.  Thanks,

Terry

BCMG Dues Payment Deadline

My fellow BCMGs,

Just a reminder BCMG dues for 2018 are $20. Thank you to everyone who has already paid!

For those of you that still need to, there are several ways to take care of this. We would love to have all dues paid by January 1.
• Mike will be collecting dues at the Christmas Party tomorrow night (December 5).
• You can send a check made out to BCMG to our Treasurer, Mike Johnston at 2400 Mary Lane Drive, Rogers AR 72756
• OR drop it by the Extension Office to my attention. We would love to have all dues paid by January 1.

We are working on the Who’s Who Directory for 2018. Be sure you are included by getting your hours in before the December 15 deadline and by paying your 2018 dues. Anything volunteer hours entered after December 15 will be for 2018.

If any of you want to help with the update for 2018, please let me know. It will be a great way to get started on your 2018 hours AND we could really use some help. We have an exciting year planned. I for one cannot wait to get started!

Thanks!

Tulip Bulb Planting at Benton County Courthouse

Merry Christmas Master Gardeners,
I know you all have the MG Christmas Party on your mind tonight, but we have one more project to complete before the end of the year.
Two thousand (2,000) purple and red spring tulips have been shipped for the Benton County Courthouse Beautification Project. “This is one of our most visible MG projects and the tulips will make a gorgeous display next spring!!!!”

I am scheduling a tulip work day for next Tuesday. (Sunny and 50 degrees)
Tuesday, December 12th
1:00pm
Benton County Courthouse
Please bring your gloves, a planting towel and a stiff rake. (one used for removing mulch.)

I am hoping for a good turnout because the county wants to take photographs while we work. We will guarantee two hours of sanctioned work hours for your time and effort.
Please let me know if you are able to help with this project…………..
Thank you again for all you do for the BCMG program and I hope you have a wonderful holiday season.
Many Thanks,
Beth Strickland

Education Session on Blueberries and Fig Trees

All  the MG Education Meeting that was Scheduled for Wed Sep 27 at pm has been rescheduled(There will not be a  meeting on Sep 27)

The new date is THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5 at 10 AM (in the Auditorium at the Ext Office)

This is the meeting that was scheduled via the Sep 15 email from me.  We intend to talk about the basic care of Fig Trees and Blueberry Bushes.  Bob Santos will be present to provide his viewpoints and to answer questions.

If you plan to attend this meeting, it would be much appreciated if you would send me an email so that I can get a gauge of how big a meeting to prepare for.  However, everyone will be welcome at the meeting whether you’ve notified me of your planned attendance or not.

Let me know if there are questions or suggestions

All, Bob Santos, a longtime MG, has over the past year donated both Fig Trees and Blueberry Bushes to the HH Garden. For various reasons, our success in caring for these plants has been less than stellar.

Bob has provided me with some basic care information and has agreed to provide his viewpoints, and to answer questions, at a MG meeting scheduled for 2 pm on Wed Sep 27 at the Extension Office in the Auditorium.

So, if you have interest in Fig Trees or Blueberry Bushes, either for your own yard, or for helping care for them at the HH Garden, please block out the 27th at 2 pm on your calendars.

If you plan to attend this meeting, it would be much appreciated if you would send me an email so that I can get a gauge of how big a meeting to prepare for. However, everyone will be welcome at the meeting whether you’ve notified me of your planned attendance or not.

Also, this is an open meeting, so if you have Non MG friends or family who want to attend, they are very much welcome.

I plan on sending out a meeting reminder a couple of days ahead of the meeting. Let me know if you have questions or suggestions.

Thanks,
Terry

2017 Master Gardener Appreciation Day – Final Registration for lunch and shirts

Deadline to order lunch or t-shirts is September 15, 2017.

Registration form can be found on the MG only portion of our website (username and password needed).

The event is free to all Master Gardeners unless you want to buy a t-shirt or order lunch.  The Union County Master Gardeners have really kicked into high gear with their planning of this event. They are lining up numerous speakers that will be stationed throughout the gardens, talking on bulbs, pollinators, propagation, container gardening, unusual trees, making your own tea, and more.  Our own Sherrie Smith will be there with her microscope to diagnose any of your plant problems.

T-shirts

Look at the awesome t-shirt design.  El Dorado had an art contest for elementary school children in conjunction with the garden and this is one of the winning designs. The top drawings were made into posters which hang in the garden year-round. The Union County Master Gardeners picked this design by artist Hope Peek.   It is appropriate since the garden will have loads of pumpkins in October when we are there. I think it is special that the Master Gardeners are truly celebrating this child’s art!  Way to go Union County.  The design is available on short and long-sleeved shirts. Order forms went out today.
